Behind the Art: Dream Sculpture

Behind the Art

An In Depth Look at Dream

Dream. That word evokes many things for me. From childhood daydreams while looking at the clouds to goals for my future and everything in between.

This sculpture was created last year as Casey and I were and are continuing to refocus our lives and dream again. What you may not know is the last decade was full of different kinds of loss that lead to a feeling of dreamlessness. In short, we found it really hard to dream.

When we were first married, it was easy to dream. We dreamed of where we would live, how many children we’d have, how Casey would sculpt to his hearts content and so on. Those early years were filled with so much joy and busyness. With raising children and bills to pay, before we knew it our dreams took a back burner. Well, most of them did anyway.

Then enters the last decade, where the reality of life is hard, comes in and knocks us off our feet. This is a time when parenting is hard and full of teenage rebellion. Well, not really rebellion even though it felt like it at times. It is a time when they are becoming themselves apart from you and make sure you know it. Loved ones and myself suffer with chronic illnesses, while also losing my dad. Our living situation changed twice due to multiple events along with the market crashing. We were not dreaming…we were barely surviving.

I’m happy to say as that season shifted into this one, we are once again dreaming and enjoying life. Ours dreams are not as “out there” as they once were, but I like them better since they seem more attainable.

This is were the sculpture Dream comes in. Casey’s description of the piece is “Dreams start out ethereal and become tangible.” Which is exactly where we are on our journey. Making dreams and figuring out how to make them a reality.

I’m so thankful for seasons of life! That they come and go. The last season has taught me numerous lessons and has made me who I am today. This season is starting off by remembering to hold on to the hopes and desires of my heart while exploring the possibilities. We only have one life to live, so dream and fulfill it or let it go and find a better one.

Here’s to our dreams!

Celebrating 2019. Thank you Collectors!

Happy New Year!

It is that time of year where we look back and reflect on what has passed. As we do, we are so grateful for the people we have met, the places seen and our careers. Being in the art field is not always easy as with many fields, however, it is rewarding. Casey will often say he is honored to be supported by you and a part of your art collection. This is because we both truly enjoy knowing that what we do brings beauty into your life.

Art is so many things to us. It not only beautifies our homes, workplaces and the world around us; it connects with us on a deeper level emotionally and intellectually. The beauty of art evokes hope, recalls memories and reflects our voice.

As I look around my home at our art collection, I am engulfed in its meaning. Each piece has touched me at different times. I am so thankful for the memories of family & friends, places & things I have seen, hard times endured, and the pure beauty of life.

I was reminded last night of how long art has been part of our cultures and who we are as people. We had an artist friend staying with us and at dinner we were talking about a web article titled, Top 10 Oldest Pieces of Art Ever Discovered by Saugat Adhikari. The article includes sculpture and cave drawing dating back to 30,000 – 700,000BC. I love how it says, “These discoveries suggest that different forms of art have been practiced throughout the [history] of mankind. Cave art and sculpture was common…”. The impact art has through history amazes me! It is very exciting to know that something you do will continue through the ages, impacting generations to come.

Thank you for reading my blog today. I look forward to continuing to share with you. The next blog post will be a “Behind the Art” in depth look at one of Casey’s pieces. Please let me know if there is a specific topic or sculpture you would like to hear about.

Sincerely,

Careyann Horn
